There are different ways of employing details in architecture. Details may be functional or decorative, traditional or modern, expressive or minimalist. For some people they are an eye-catching extra, a point of emphasis that draws the gaze - something that might seem superfluous, although its absence would make the architecture dull and uninteresting.
