The essays (according to the 1595 edition of Marie de Gournay)

In 1580, Michel de Montaigne dio the first edition of his two books of The Essays to the press. The success was so overwhelming that, two years m later, a new edition appeared, augmented by a third book and with notable additions and corrections in the first two. This completed the writing of one of the books that have had the greatest prestige and influence on Western thought.
