On 7 June 1640, a great riot led by a mass of reapers who had entered Barcelona, as well as by numerous members of the popular strata of the Catalan capital, put an end to the life of Dalmau de Queralt, Count of Santa Coloma and Viceroy of Catalonia. From then on, ja very tense relations between the Catalan institutions and the Court of Madrid entered a point of fission of no return.
