The cockroach

Ian McEwan presents a corrosive satire of the England of Brexit and the Europe of populism. The beginning of the novel is a reworking of the famous beginning of Kafka's The Metamorphosis. But here the terms are reversed and we find a cockroach that, one bon day, quan wakes up, discovers that it has become a huge human being, specifically the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, named Jim Sams.
