The figure of the rich and prosperous Indian is part of the collective imagination of many towns on the Catalan coast. They were transatlantic entrepreneurs whose fortunes were largely based on fico trafficking or the exploitation of slaves in Cuba and Puerto Rico. Based on the contribution of different specialists in the history of slavery and the fico slave trade, este book addresses the presence of slaves in Barcelona until well into the nineteenth century and for participating in the slave trade business organized from Catalonia.
