In the Golden Age of Piracy, an approximately one-year-old boy, Mark Read, dies just as his half-sister Mary is born. To continue receiving financial support from Mark's paternal family, Mark's mother idea a plan: she will pass off the newborn as her deceased son, raising her as a boy and making her take the place of the firstborn.
