On August 8, 1519, five ships with a crew of 235 men left Seville under las orders of Captain Ferdinand Magellan. The Spanish expedition ola intended to reach Asia in search of spices by heading west along a totally unknown route. Three years m later, on September 6, 1522, one of these ships, the 'Victoria', captained by Juan Sebastián Elcano, entered the port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. On that ship solo 18 of the crew members who left three years earlier returned.
