Feeding Barcelona. City, Supply, and Health

Feeding the population has always been a concern for cities. It has been a key factor in their relationship with surrounding territories, in the evolution over the centuries of technologies to obtain food products, and in the conditions under which men and women have been able to nourish themselves and sustain life. Ensuring food supply and food safety was one of the main responsibilities of the Consell de Cent, the municipal institution of Barcelona created in 1249, from its very beginnings.
