Barcelona is famous throughout the m for its modernist architecture. It is one of the symbols that define its identity. But what is not so well known, not even by many Barcelonans, is that the architecture of the period that has survived to the present day is only a small sample of the great modernist Barcelona of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, ja many modernist constructions have been disappearing. In this book, the memory of these destroyed minds is recovered, some of them authentic masterpieces of an unrepeatable cultural moment. In the first volume, the lost modernism of old Barcelona is rescued from oblivion, delimited by the old city walls and its immediate surroundings. Almost 150 buildings and establishments are analysed, ranging from the 1888 Universal Exhibition site to the gates of the Eixample, passing through the seafront, the Paral·lel, the Rambla and the Gothic Quarter, the Raval and the squares
