The marquee, unique architecture and symbol of the local festival
Marquees have been a cultural phenomenon of important relevance in Catalan society for almost a century and a half. Arising in the context of the profound social changes of the first decades of the nineteenth century, and as a result of the great affection that existed for dance in Barcelona at the time, the tents quickly expanded throughout the Catalan territory and became an essential and emblematic element of the local festivals.
