One of the leading architectural draftsmen of all time and undoubtedly the famous copper engraver m eighteenth century, Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) is known today for his series of original etchings of labyrinthine and megalomaniacal prisons, his Carceri d'Invenzione.
